A Christmas Poem

Today is Christmas Eve. Whether you celebrate the holiday or not, you know that tomorrow brings presents, thoughts of Santa Clause, and dreams of sugar plums.

Here is today’s dessert:

Let Every Day Be Christmas

Christmas is forever, not for just one day, for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf. The good you do for others is good you do yourself.
© 1976 Norman W. Brooks

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Christmas
  • 1 tablespoon You
  • 1 tablespoon Loved Ones
  • 3 quarts Emotion (divided equally between Love, Share, and Give)

Directions:

Stir in the emotions each day rather than just on the one day of Christmas.

Be kind to others, and to yourself. Kindness comes back two-fold. Store unused portions immediately and use whenever needed.

Happy Christmas to you.

You really are a poetic soul, aren’t you, Christy?

It’s a great poem, short and to the point (the kind I can understand!)… If everybody treated everybody else with love and compassion, we wouldn’t need armies, bombs and long lineups at the airports…

<<loves fruit cake…and no, I am not running a temperature.

Brooks captures the essence of the Spirit of Christmas…not the commercial gift-giving portion, but the familial camaraderie which is embodied the last two weeks of December. It truly is a magical time of the year.

The lesson is extending the warmth into the rest of the year makes us better for the giving, not of physical things, but of the support and love of one another.

Good choice for a Christmas message, Christy.

Thanks Red for your wonderful commentary. Christmas has a way of bringing people closer and happier in spirit. Keeping those qualities the rest of the year is more of a struggle but is well worth it!

    Beautiful post
“The good You do to Others is good You do to yourself”, says Brooks… I think he is quite right…

It’s a great recipe Christy, and, the wonderful thing about it is that you can never overdo the ingredients. If not enough, then always add more as required. It will always taste good. Love is the magic ingredient that brings the others nicely together!! 😀

Merry Christmas to you and your family – HO HO HO!! 🙂
