Poem: Caffeinated Thinking

Caffeine (film)

The notion of comparing the writing of poetry to drinking caffeine emerged earlier today during my conversation with my friend Remo.

He also writes poetry at the wonderful siteΒ Maxwell Jazz.

The conversation inspired me to write this poem.

Caffeinated Thinking

My thoughts are caffeinated without a cup,

Fluid thoughts pouring through my fingers

As I type my words,

Trying to keep up with the creative thoughts,

Without regard for spelling or hyphenation

(There is time for correction later).

Avoid the backspace key and keep up the words hot

As percolated messages that will soon be shared.

Almost to the Publish key

And then it’s time for a break for me,

A cold glass of orange juice to wash down the visions –

I got my caffeine fix while writing this poem.

Love this, Christy! A very unique approach, and so true … I think I get the double dose of caffeine then, since my coffee/tea mug is always at my side when I write, lol. I love, “Fluid thoughts pouring through my fingers” – awesome line. Love your creativity with this, girlfriend. ~ Julie xoxox πŸ™‚

There is poetry in the sheer pleasure of making your first cup of morning coffee. Smelling the heady aroma of the beans. Grinding the beans, boiling water, christening the ground coffee with just the right amount of water. Waiting for the magic moment to press down. Ahhh French Press Coffee. One single perfect cup. Of course there should be a poem about coffee Christy. Virginia

Virginia, you are so right – coffee and poetry can go well together in the ways you explain! I actually prefer tea and will say ‘cheers’ to you as I sip some more from my cup πŸ™‚

Your creative flow fills the cup to brimmin’ and over. Great metaphor, X–and I am a coffee drinker, and I love this on every caffeinated level–it imparts the urgency that co-exists with getting it all “to paper” in a figuratively eye-opening manner that mimics the brew itself. Refill, please!

Great! Caffeine usually makes me clean my house faster. It doesn’t do anything for my writing. Long time ago I took classes in creative writing and I had an article published in a Journal but I find it easier to express myself in Photos, as you already know, Christy. I think taking photos requires calmness. Since I’ve started taking photos I’ve quit drinking Colas. Dr. Pepper made me hyper. Your friend, Adela
