Secrets, A Poem

Sometimes there are secrets,

The words escaping as whispers from our mouths,

Soft tones that speak magnitudes and cover entire valleys

With only a few syllables.

Sometimes there are secrets,

That only exist as thoughts,

Cutting like a razor’s edge into a happy moment –

Taking the clock to a place of unrequited love.

Sometimes I wonder at the rationale,

The selfishness to bring someone else into the secret,

And then I remember I must rise above

To a cloud of giving, where we receive love that is returned

And no secrets surround us.
